MEDALS OF MERIT

SERVICE TO BOY SCOUT MOVEMENT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 17. The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, wlio is Dominion Chief Scout, lias approved ' the following awards of the, Scout Association's medal of merit" in recognition of good services to the scout movement:—A. E. J, Corr, Bay of Islands; Major R. F. Ward, N. P. Walker, N. M. Mathesou, Auckland; C. Buxton Bach, Papatoetoe; J. Archer, Absolom, Hawke’s Bay; Rev. C. E. Hyde, Waipukurau; G. L. Culver, Wanganui; Miss M. E. Gill, Wellington; C. Halford, Petone; A. J. Black, Dunedin, and H. J. Dowling, Invercargill. Mr Black lias held appointments as cubmaster, Scoutmaster, and district Scoutmaster. Early in 1938 he was appointed district commissioner for the Dunedin Scout district, which appointment he continued to hold until, in 1941, he became the Dominion headquarters commissioner for Sea Scouts, in which capacity he is still actively serving. Mr Black has been prominently associated with the introduction of the standard Sea Scout boat in New Zealand. Mr Henry John Dowling started as a cub in 1924, • was, cubmaster of the Knox pack, Wanganui, and later was cubmaster of the St. David’s group, Auckland, and district cubmaster, Christchurch. In 1941 he was appointed assistant, metropolitan commissioner for wolf cubs for the Auckland area, and acted in this capacity until liis removal to Invercargill, when he was appointed .assistant county commissioner for wolf cubs, in June of this year. >' '■■■''
