8.8. C. TELEVISION SERVICE.—An aerial van of the outside broadcast fleet, No. 1, of the British Broadcasting Corporation Television service, showing extensible aerial lowered. This is a converted fire escape, and it can be reared to a height of between 80 and 90ft. It is used in television transmission where the radio link is employed as distinct from the television cable which encircles Central London. It has been used at Wimbledon for the tennis matches. It is also a stand-by for use in case of a cable breakdown.
