Nominations for the Dunedin Jockey Club’s Spring Meeting close on Friday. Forfeits for the, McLean Stakes and Dunedin Guineas are due oh the same day. Returned to the Fold. T. H. Gunning returned to the, fold at the Otago Hunt meeting, when ho drove Loehdornie in the Broekville Trot. Gunning recently received his license after serving a term of disqualification . Finished Last. ' Joygiver was one of the smartest away , in the Tally-ho Handicap on Saturday and was handy to the leaders until the straight was reached, but he then dropped out. Joygiver and his stable mate. St. Nattar, were the last to finish . GuineasFavourite. Majesty is not likely to go out Of favour for the Avondale Guineas this week because. of his showing in the Flying; Handicap at Avondale last Saturday. Through drawing a wide berth at the barrier, he lost a lot of ground in the early stages, and after becoming prominent. in the straight . he weakened-into third position at the post.; ! One Wingatui Horse Engaged. Amorlad, who is an acceptor in the! County Hurdle Handicap at Ashburton oh - Saturday, ’ is "the only Wingatui horse engaged at'.the meeting. He has now had two races over hurdles, and as his jumping lias improved considerably, lie should 1 not be long in reaching the winning list, Amorlad is trained by A. E. Didham fpr (Mr D. McFarlane, who also races Foxchase, Palm Beurer, and the . pacers Scottish Lady and - Free Fight. ' New Role. -.■■■■■ The Invercargill trainer, T. E. Pankhurajfc, figured, in a new role when he drove Locksley Hall in,the Broekville Trot last,Saturday,-Loepley Hall acted as pacemakdr; for' about a mile’ and a-quarter, and there is jood reason to regard his future prospects brightly. Aussie Boy was also driven by Pankhu'rst in the second trot. The trainer completed the ' day successfully by saddling Siegtone in the final,eveilt. Disappointed. • s ; ■ Air Ace . galloped well last week, and when paraded on Saturday he. appeared to be in exceptionally good order. He began well, but after covering a few furlongs’he lost bis position,

and when the half-mile was reached he was at the tail of the field. Air. Ace commenced a forward move approaching the straight, but although he made up a lot of ground, he was never in a winning position. When the post was reached lie was several lengths behind the placed horses.’ Promising Novice.

Concrete, one' of the best-looking horses, trained at Wingatui for some time, put up a sterling performance in the Vauxhall Handicap when he was narrowly beaten by Siegtone. He was one of the leaders all the way, and after beating off Alamode he appeared to have the race in safe keeping until Siegtone arrived on the scene. He is still eligible for maiden races, and in his present form it will take an exceptionally .good novice to beat him next time he starts.

Jumped Big. Invulnerable set a fast pace in the Sea View Hurdles last Saturday, lint he was jumping big at some of the hurdles and losing ground. He was still in charge with three furlongs to go when Robert outjumped him to take the lead. Invulnerable has schooled well in private, and is likely to shape better next time he starts. Being by Siegfried from "Winsome Sister, the dam of Royal Lancer, he should be able to stay, and with a little more experience may develop good form.

Above the Average., , Supor Globe stamped himself as a four-year-old above the average by lus solid* performance in winning the Brighton Handicap in 4.22 from a 4.50 mark at Addington on Saturday. Sinco ho won at the Cheviot meeting last July, when making his first appearance in public, the Springfield Globe , colt has run fourth in the Metropolitan Stakes to Globe Direct, Sir Michael, and Bonny Glare, at his only other stalt. In-all his races he has been driven by his trainer, R. J. Berry, who races him in partnership with Mr D. Welsh.

First Success. . Siegtono, who paid the largest dividend of the day when she won the Vauxhall Handicap at Wingatui last Saturday, is a six-yenr-old mare by Siegfried from Mei Tui, by Tractor from Marianne., Mei Tui, who is also the dam of Spare Part and Spear Trust, ranks as a sister to Wingatui, the dam of Money Bird and Lance Wing. Siegtone commenced racing last autumn, when she finished third in a trial plate at the Southland meeting in April. In six subsequent starts lqst season she failed to live up to the reputation, earned by her early placing, and Saturday marked her first success. ; After being well, placed behind the leaders all the way, Siegtone came through on the fence to catch Concrete just short of the post. On the strength of that performance she should not have any difficulty in winning further distance hack races during, the season'. Strained Tendon. ;

**Eag!e Flight was sensationally backed for,the Mentone Cun, but she was,. never travelling like a winner (says an Australian writer). The New Zealand mare strained a tendon in the near foreleg and was lame on returning to scale. The -race, was narrowly won by the Tasmanian Night Fighter (hot to be confused with that other good Tasmanian galloper Night Guardian), from Rose Bay, the latter being a fine staying four-year-old mare by Le Grand Due, a three-quarter brother to Biilandshar. <

Royal Tan, the full-brother to Bruce, was beaten i; a head in the last few strides in the mile Mannunibar Handicap, for ‘ three-year-olds. This promising Royal Chief gelding was supported at. good double-figure, odds by his connections, and the stable would have recouped some of Gay Fort's losses bad lie won.
