RAISING LEAVING AGE

WILL BRING TEACHER SHORTAGE AUSTRALIAN EDUCATION PROBLEM (Rec 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 28. A shortage of 7,000 teachers in Australia by 1948 if various State Education Departments proceeded with intended reforms, was forecast by the ; Assistant Director of the Commonwealth Office of Education, Dr T. L. ißobertson. He said that some States were planning to raise the school-leav-ing age to 16 years, which could increase the shortage to 10,000.
