Mr Peter .Dawson, accompanied by Mr Clarence'Black, arrived in Dunedin yesterday afternoon. ■ , , Mr G. J. Sceats, head of the inter- > mediate ■ department of. the Waitaki - Boys' High School, Oamaru, has been , notified of his appointment on promo-' tion to the head of the intermediate" department of Marlborough College, Blenheim. Mr Sceats will leave Oamaru towards the end of August to take up his new appointment. Mr Avra M. Warren, United States Minister in New Zealand, is expected to arrive in Dunedin by air on Monday. He will exhibit the film SThe True Glory ' at the University on Monday night and will leave the: following morning on his return north. A Press Association cable message from London states that the >'■ new barons, Sir Walter Citrine, and the former Governor-General of New Zealand, Marshal of the Royal Air Force, Sir Cyril Newall, have taken the titles of Baron Citrine of Wembley in the county of Middlesex, and Baron Newall of, Clifton-upon-Dunsmoore, in the county of Warwick. Nurse Dorothy Dawson, who is on the staff of the Dunedin Public Hobpital, gained the highest marks in the Dominion in the State maternity nurses', examinations held last month.. Nurse Dawson, whose parents reside at Jackson street, St. Kilda, did her general training at Dunedin, but took her maternity course at Dargaville and she sat her examination at Auckland. A Henderson farmer, Mr D. K. Dunbar, who rose from private to major during the second World War, has been', chosen as the National, Party's candidate for the Waitakere seat, reports an Auckland message. Born in England, Mr Dunbar came to New Zealand in 1914 and immediately enlisted in the First N.Z.E.F. ' He # returned wounded just before the armistice. Reference to the death of Mr "Willi.
