WOT-NO MIXED METAPHORS?
[Written by " T.M.C." for the ' Evening Star.'] Well, Walter is returning Within a day or two, And everyone is burning To know what he will do. As far as I can judge, it Will be to bring to birth A pre-election Budget, A mild, persuasive Budget, An unexampled Budget, Like nothing else on earth. It will not be suggestive Of taxes, on the rise; For folk are growing restive, And.cast suspicious eyes On governmental suction; So (possibly) we may Make wishful-eyed deduction Concerning some reduction, Some fractional reduction, On what we have to pay. Now this may meet our wishes, But wait, electors, wait. No angler catches fishes Without a little bait; And any small concession Before we seek the poll May head a long procession, A limitless succession, Of liberty-suppression, Restriction and control. So, do your Budget-watching O citizens, with heed. . . An egg of Walter's hatching Will be of Walter's breed. However fair the promise With which he drops his load, Remember that the Bomb is, The Nash-Atomic-Bomb is, Our Walter's Budget-Bomb is Preparing to explode.
