BRITISH-MADE PENICILLIN
SOON TO BE EXPORTED LONDON, 'May 1, Penicillin will be generally available in chemists’ shops throughout Britain from June 1, but may he purchased only under doctors’ prescription. This is announced by the Minister, of Supply, Mr J. Wilmot. The Minister said that general distribution had become possible because Britain was producing 1,000 times as much as in 1943. Penicillin, under the controlled _ price will cost less in shillings than it did only a few months ago in pounds. Preparations have been made for large quantities of lozenges, powders, and ointment, which are expected to make a popular appeal, mainly for the treat-, ment of minor ailments. The penicillin output is sufficient to make it possible soon to export large amounts without sacrificing Britain’s needs.
