METEOR AIRCRAFT

FLIGHT OVER SOUTH OTAGO This morning, at 10 a.m., the Gloster Meteor, piloted by Squadron-leader It. AT. McKay, after taking off from Taieri, visited Gore, Mataura, Balclutha, Kaitaugata, and Milton, returning to land at Taieri at 10.52 a.m. Wherever the ceiling permitted over the towns which were visited, an exhibition of aerobatics was given. ADDITIONAL AIRCRAFT FOR f DISPLAY. A Corsair and a Harvard which will fly down from Wigram will take part in the . display at the opening of the Otago Aero Club to-morrow. , This should be> oi/considerable as it; is expected;: that the aircraft! will), give; aerobatic displays. The Corsair aircraft'was used by New Zealand fighter squadrons in the Pacific, and the Harvard was the machine on which prospective fighter pilots did their service flying training. The public will be given an opportunity to examine the Gloster Meteor at close quarters to-morrow, when the aircraft will be on view in a roped-off enclosure. Piloted by Squadron-leader McKay, the machine will give an exhibition of flying and aerobatics during the afternoon. At 2.30, before the opening of the Otago Aero Club by the Mayor, Mr D. C. Cameron, Flightlieutenant J. Day, M.8.E., the aero club instructor, will give an exhibition of aerobatics in a Tiger Moth. TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS. Special trains will run to the Taieri aerodrome to-morrow for the official opening of the Aero Club and the display of the Gloster Meteor aeroplane. Trains will leave the Dunedin Railway Station at 1.30 p.m., and passengers will alight at the siding at the aerodrome at 2 p.m. The trains will leave the aerodrome on.the return journey at 4.20 p.m. The officer in charge of the Air Force station, Taieri, states that the station, camp area ; and the flying field, except that portion in use by the Aero Club in connection with the display, will not be open to the public. The public will enter at the Wingatui road entrance only—that is, at the Moseiel side of the aerodrome.
