MAXIMUM PRODUCTION
VITAL TO INTERNAL ECONOMY (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 26. The importance to the Dominion's internal economy of everything possible being done to ensure the maximum production from industry was emphasised during the hearing of a deputation from Auckland to the Rt, Hon. P. Fraser to discuss the electric power situation. Mr Fraser said that everything possible was being done to obtain plant from overseas, where, however, there were heavy demands on the manufacturing firms. It was important that production should be increased in New Zealand, and if anything could be done to obtain more power the Government would do it. It was bad economics to control production. " Quite candidly, the country cannot stand the stopping of industries," said the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, who was present. The losing of an hour a day could cost the country £1,000,000 or more in the loss of consumer goods. It was immensely important to try to keep industries going full tinre from the point of view of the internal economy of the Dominion.
