DOCTOR SERVICE
MINISTERS MEET B.M.A. OFFICIALS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 25. Long discussions took place yesterday afternoon between the Prime Minister, Mr Eraser, the Minister of Health, Mr Nordmeyer, the chairman of the Council of the British Medical Association, Dr E. H. M. Luke, and the secretary, Dr Alan Park. At the Dominion conference of the association earlier in the year, Mr Nordmeyer indicated that it was the wish of the Government that the 7s 6d fee for service should be accepted in full settlement and claimed direct from the Government, and it is presumed that this was the subject discussed.
A poll was recently taken by the association to obtain the views of its members, and it is understood that a substantial majority was in favour of acceptance of the statutory fee of 7s 6d in full settlement, but since then, in accordance with the constitution of the association, meetings of divisions have been held throughout the Dominion, and it is believed that this was opposed by these meetings. v
The poll was taken by means of a questionnaire circulated to members of the association. It is understood that 380 members favoured co-operation with the Government and acceptance of the 7s 6d from the Government in full settlement, that 268 votes were recorded against co-operation, and that no replies were received l to 552 of the questionnaires.
