RHODES SCHOLARSHIPS
ONLY TWO AVAILABLE THIS YEAR Because the colleges at Oxford University will hot be able to absorb the additional students, only two Rhodes scholarships will be available to New Zealand candidates this year. It was expected that more would be offered to compensate for those lost during the war years, \vhen the selection was deferred for the duration, while a certain number of the students recommended were expected to be service personnel who missed their opportunity by reason of the war. The two scholarships open to candidates this year will be available to servicemen or civilians, the Selection Committee having to make a decision based on the merits of each case. Two students annually was the pre-war number admitted by the Rhodes Trustees.
