LONDON, April 11. There are not many reasons why London should be grateful to the Luftwaffe.,. Nevertheless, it is a fact that German air raids have led to the discovery of most interesting antiquarian relics in the metropolis. Investigations on a bombed site near Fenchurch street, in the city, have led to the finding of traces of Roman remains. Apparently a Roman town has lain for all these centuries beneath the existing London, and the Fenchurch street site is judged to have been near a forum and market place. Part of a

Roman wall and fragments of Roman pottery have already been unearthed. This: is only one of several instances where the deep seams blown by enemy bombs in the city area have churned up souvenirs of Roman habitation. Archaeologists . are keeping an alert watch on all excavation work on bombed sites, and the British Museum is being considerably enriched in consequence. It is a grim irony by which twentieth-century air war is bringing to light the forgotten remains of B.C. Roman England. Atomic bombing might take us still further back into the unsuspected past!
