POWER SAVING

FEWER TRAM STOPS (P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 15. Tho saving in electric power effected by the elimination of certain tram stops prevented the tramway system's inclusion in the compulsory_4 p.m. to 5 p.m. power cut which, if it had occurred, would have plunged Auckland's transport system into chaos. This statement was made by the chairman of the Auckland Transport Board, Mr W. H. Nagle, this morning, in reporting to the board that a number of requests had been received for the restoration of certain tram stops. However, there was a grave doubt whether the elimination of the stops would be sufficient to-give the required saving in power, and,it might still he necessary to curtail the tramway services, he added.
