BERNBOROUGH AGAIN

GREAT DUEL WITH FLIGHT SEVEN WINS IN SUCCESSION SYDNEY, April 14. The long-awaited meeting of Bernborough and the champion mare Flight took place over 10 furlongs at Randwick in the Chipping Norton Stakes. Bernborough won by a long head after what is described as the toughest race of his career. Flight got away from the slower-starting Bernborough, and had a handsome lead at the five furlongs. The big horse made up ground quickly, and was again a close second when rounding the home turn. As Flight fought to hold the lead, Bernborough's jockey, Mulley, applied the whip, and Flight was almost crowded against the rail. In spite of enforced checks in the last furlong, Bernborough ran the last half-mile in 46sec, and his time for the mile and a-quar-ter was only ssec outside Beau Vite's Australian record. With seven wins in succession, Bernborough is now hailed as Australia's horse of the day. What is described by the ' Daily Telegraph ' as " the worst demonstration in New South Wales turf history " occurred after Murray Stream won the Liverpool Handicap. The horse was hustled into a float and taken from the course after being escorted by police. One demonstrator leaped the fence and hauled up the protest flag. Murray Stream beat the favourite, the New Zealand horse Immediate, after finishing last and sixteenth in his last two runs. CHIPPING NORTON STAKES. lim.
