"THE AMAZING MR ROOKLYN"

Though the audience is strongly advised to " watch his fingers," those who witnessed the performance of the ' Amazing Mr Rooklyn ' at His Majesty's Theatre last night did not derive a great deal of benefit from the injunction. In fact the closer they watched the more mystified they became. With a wide variety of illusions this gentleman is equally at homo making billiard balls appear from and disappear into the empty air or building a large' birdcage beforo the eyes of his audience and by some means of remote control imprisoning a charming young lady in it. Seldom have examples of the magician's art been presented on the Dunedin stage with such skill and apparent ease. In addition to experiments new to the audience there were old ones brought up to date. For instance many had seen an assistant enclosed in a box and thou apparently cut in half with a cross-cut saw, but Mr Rooklyn discards the box and carries out the task with an elec-trically-driven circular saw. But it is not a ono man show, and the principal is supported by entertainers who provide an adequate background to the main part of the programme. Comedy is provided by Mr Ted James, Miss Florence Gold, and Mr Jerry Keogh. The Sehvay Sisters, tap dancers; Miss Alta Lowe, instrumentalist; and the Blue Velvet Ballet round off a most entertaining programme. The Amazing Mr Rooklyn will appear each night until Saturday.
