DOMINION TOURMENf DUHEDIH PLAYER'S SUCCESS (P.A.) TIMARU, January 24. One of several close matches in the Dominion croquet, tournament to-day was that between Mis' G. Metcalfe U>unedin) and Mrs A. S. Clark (Christchurch) in the third round of the women's singles. In the first game Mrs Clark got awiiy with a good lead nud won 26-9. She took the lead in the second game, but Mrs Metcalfe, by yood play, managed to, get the balls around and finished with a two-point win. The Christchurch player again had a lead in the third game, and pegged out one of her balls. Mrs Metcalfe picked up a long shot,-and when Mrs Clark, after several attempts, failed to hit the peg, she went in to win the match and the game, 26-25. A large gallery watched the championship doubles game between Mrs T. G. Dick and A. G. F. Ross (Christchurch) and Miss I. Wainwright (Hamilton) and W. S. Beamish (Christchurch). The Christchurch pair looked the likely winners, but Miss Wainwright and Beamish caught up and took the lead, winning the game 26-22. Mesdames Q. R. Rawlinson and J. Stewart (both of Methven), in their first experience of a Dominion croquet tournament, defeated a more experienced pair in Mesdames G. Metcalfe (Dunedin) and D. Strang (Invercargill) in the second round of the second life, but were put out in the' next round by Mrs G. MeLeod and R. W. McCreath (Gore). The level singles final will be played to-morrow between Mesdames Rawlinson and T Knowles (TimariO.
