LINESMAN REPLACED
AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS ADELAIDE, January 24. The replacement of a linesman was ordered during the Brown versus Hopman quarter-final match _ of the Australian singles lawn tennis championship. Brown defeated Hopman, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. Hopman outplayed Brown in the first set, and, but for questionable decisions by the line umpires, might have Avon the second. Bromwich beat Harper, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1, in a match that had few surprises. Quist beat Bonner, 6-0, 8-6, 3-6, 6-2. In this match Quist's form was inconsistent. He started well, but appeared to flag, not recovering until the fourth set. Pails defeated Brodio, 6-2, 6-2, 6-0. never leaving the issue in doubt. Pails and Bromwich appear to be at the' peak of their form.
