SHOOTS ROUND CORNERS

GERMAN-DESIGNED RIFLE ° ______ « LONDON, January 23. A German-designed rifle with a curved barrel to shoot round corners may become a standard British Army weapon. A manufacturer's model of the rifle was discovered in Berlin and was laughed at as a freak, but secret tests proved that it is no joke. An Army marksman scored three bulls with four shots on a round-the-corner target, aiming with a periscope sight. The rifle is considered an excellent weapon for street fighting. Its works are simple. A small explosive charge forces the bullet up a straight • section of the barrel into a curved attachment, in which a number of small holes allow the gases to escape to reduce the velocify of the bullet.
