COMPULSORY ARBITRATION

ABOLITION NOT FAVOURED ' (Rec. 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, January 23. The General Council of the T.U.C. decided that • abolition of compulsory arbitration at present would not be in the interests' of the trade union movement or the nation as a whole. The council reconsidered its attitude in light of the undertakings given •by the Labour Minister, which made it possible for the T.TT.C. and British Employers' Federation to request cancellation of the compulsory system. The Press Association says the National Executive of the Labour Party decided to recommend the annual conference not to accept the_ Communist Party's proposal for affiliation. U.N.O.
