(From Our Correspondent.) Welcome Home.—There was a large attendance at the welcome _ home tendered recently-returned servicemen in the Coronation Hall, Milton, on Monday night. The M.ilton Brass and Pipe Bands assisted, and during the course of an enjoyable function items were given by Mrs N. Drinnan and Mr If. W. McDonald (songs), Messrs A. Amyes, S. Ottrey, F. McDonald, L. TNorwell (quartette), and Mr J. Donald (violin solos). The men present were Major A. R. Wethey, Squadron-leader H. McClymont, Sergeants J. Lucas, S. Wilson, Gunner R. F. Jones, Private T. Hughes, and Sapper L. Casey. They were accorded musical honours, and were welcomed by the Mayor (Mr C. Keinan) for the citizens, Mr J. W. Keogh ((R.S.A.), and Rev. L. T. Norwell (Ministers' Association). Balclutha Court.—Mr A. E. Dobbie, S.M., presided over the sitting of Balclutha Court on "Wednesday. George Tohill and Donald Richmond, freezing works employees, were charged with the theft of two tyres, two tubes, and two motor car wheels, valued at £l7, at Kaka Point, on January 19, the property of James Borthwick, Balclutha. Tohill was convicted and fined £lO, while Richmond, who had been previously convicted of theft, and had been overseas for two and a-half years, was fined £2O, in default 14 days' imprisonment. Both men pleaded guilty. —James William Bennett, a labourer, of Balclutha, appeared voluntarily on a charge of behaving in an offensive manner in a Balclutha shop on January 7, and pleaded guilty. He was fined £25 and allowed a month to pay.—For driving a motor lorry at excessive speed J. A. Borthwick, Waiwera, was fined £4, with 12s costs.—The CLutha Carrying Company appeared on four charges —failing to display a certificate of fitness, 5s (costs 10s), exceeding the heavy traffic license, fined 10s (costs 10s), on each of two charges, and exceeding the load limitation on tyres, convicted without penalty.—Victor Cooke (Dunedin), for allowing'(Robert Murray to drive a rental car hired by defendant, was fined 10s (costs 10s).— G-. Dixon (Chaslands) was fined £1 (costs 12s) for operating a.motor cycle without a warrant of fitness, fined £1 (costs 10s) for having no driver's license and fined £1 (costs 10s) for having no silencer on the machine.— For erecting a shed without having the necessary permit from the Borough Council, F. G. Gordon (Balclutha) was fined 10s, with 10s costs.
