After a debate lasting several hours, the United Nations Administrative Budgetary Committee approved recommendations of the net saleary of 13,500 dollars for- assistant secretaries-gene-ral, with expenses and allowances varying from 7,500 dollars to 11,000 dollars, at the Secretary-General's discretion. Salaries of 11,000 dollars were approved for leading directors, with similar varying expense allowances of 3,000 to 6,000 dollars. The committee referred the question of taxation to a sub-committee.
