REBEL STRONGHOLD ATTACKED STRIKES IN ATHENS (Rec. 11.55 a.m.) •» LONDON, January 23. After the attack by Greek troops qn the " X Organisation's " stronghold near Kalamata the rebel leader sent a message that he would confer on peace terms, reports the Associated Press correspondent at N Athens. The Greek troops ceased fire and the British Colonel Max Nobel, who is deputy chief constable in the British police force in Greece,'.went in alono to meet the rebel leader in the mountain stronghold. There are reported to be 2,000 rebels and 120 hostages in the stronghold. The State machinery in Athens has virtuallv been thrown out of gear by the strike of Civil servants. Bank clerics have joined the strikers, demanding salary increases.
