OCEAN YACHT RACE
TWO CRAFT MISSING PLANE SEARCHING (Rec. 11.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 31. An R.A.A.F. plane will to-day search the New South Wales coast for the yachts Horizon and Rani, which are missing in the Sydney-Hobart yacht race. Rani and Horizon have not been sighted for three days since the fleet of nine yachts ran into a southerly gale last Thursday. These two - boats were last reported off Moruya, approximately 130 miles from Sydney. Both yachts are believed to have sailed off-shore during the gale, and the pilot of the R.A.A.F. plane has been instructed to search well out to sea.
One other yacht, damaged in the gale, dropped out of the race on Saturday. -The six other competitors are continuing. The 'Tasmanian cutter, TV install Churchill, is almost certain to wifi the race. She was last reported with a lead of about 60 miles, although she . had severely fractured her planking above the waterline.
