"FAT AND SLEEK"
JAPS. THRIVED IN N.Z.
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 29. American officers describe the Japanese at Featherston as "the fattest and sleekest Japs, we have ever seen." They are in striking contrast with the dirty, "crummy" Japanese they have met with on active service. This is largely the result of New Zealand's determination to adhere to the terms of the Geneva Convention, and the prisoners at Featherston have been accorded treatment stricly as laid down by the signatories to that agreement. The voyage to Japan will take about 30 days. It is anticipated that two stops will be made for water, one in the Solomons and one in the Mariannas, but the ships will not go alongside the wharf, lighters bringing out supplies.
