Although Christmas at the Fernleaf and Milestone Clubs in London was gay, and all New Zealanders spent an enjoyable time, far fewer men than anticipated arrived for Christmas dinner. Free dinners were available for over 800, but no more than 300 attended, the reason being that, the majority accepted offers of private hospitality. General . Sir Bernard. Fxeyberg=and - Ladv Freyberg were present for dinner "at the Fernleaf Club, and there •was a pleasant air of informality. Sixty to 70 couples attended the dances at., the club on Christmas Eve, and (Boxing night. The Milestone Club, which was used by members of the N.Z.E.F. on leave, closed to-day. ■
