STUDENT CONFERENCE

CHRISTIAN MOVEMENT The annual summer conference of the New Zealand Student Christian Movement, which is affiliated to the World Student Christian Federation, was commenced to-day at John McGlashan College and will be continued until January 5. The Student Christian Movement has a branch in each university college and training college in the Dominion, and in Lincoln Agricultural College. There are also branches in 18 secondary schools. The S.C.M.’s membership in the World Student Christian Federation links! it with similar movements in some £0 countries throughout the world. Thus the movement is international and also interdenominational and intereonfessional in character. .This 19-15-4 G conference is of special significance in that it marks the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the New Zealand Movement and also of the World’s Student Christian Federation, About 100 delegates will be coming from all parts of New Zealand. The theme of the conference and special studies (written by the Rev. .1. A. Jormyn, of Wellington) are concerned with 1 The Church of Jesus Christ.’ Bible tutorials on the Epistle to the Ephesians will be taken by the Rev. W. R. Laws, of Caversham, while Dean Button, of St. Paul’s Cathedral, and the Rev. W. W. Robinson, of Christchurch, will conduct the devotional side of the conference. The evening addresses, to which visitors will be welcomed, will be given by the following:—Dr John Henderson, the Rev. H. A. Mitchell, the Rev. George MeNeur, Miss Joan Benton, N.Z.S.C.M. general secretary, and Mr Robert McCaw. A special feature of the conference wiil be the jubilee service to be held in St. Paul’s Cathedral on Sunday at J p.ni. The speaker will be the Rev. R. Thoruley, of Invercargill.
