GENERAL PATTON
BURIAL IN LUXEMBURG ' MR ATTLEE'S SYMPATHY LONDON, December 22. General Patton will be buried on Monday in the American soldiers’ cemetery at Hamm, in Luxemburg. Mrs Patton and the military authorities selected Hamm, as it was felt that General Patton would have wanted to remain with the Third Army, many soldiers of which are buried there. General Patton drove into Luxemburg to oppose the critical German break-through in the Ardennes a year ago. The Third Army and the Seventh Army will conduct funeral services at Heidelberg on Sunday, after which the body will be taken to Hamm. Six hundred infantrymen selected from three divisions of the Third Army will form a guard of honour at the funeral. Mr Attlee spent the following message to Mrs Patton:—“l am deeply distressed to learn of the tragic death of your husband. _ Please accept my sincere sympathy in your sorrow.”
