ALLIES COMPLETE OCCUPATION OF SAMARANG ANOTHER BRIGADE DUE TO-MORROW (Rec. 12.15 p.m.) BATAIVA, Oct. 21. British and Indian troops have completed the occupation of Samarang and rescued nearly 1,000 persons who were locked up by the Indonesians for ,10 days. The Indonesian “ Minister of Defence ” has accepted General Hawthorne’s order that all Indonesians except civil police in the British-con-trolled area must be disarmed, said the Army spokesman. This British forces had the situation as Samarang in hand after three days of patrolling and skirmishing. Another British brigade is landing on Tuesday. Reuter’s correspondent reports that the position at Batavia is fairly quiet, but early this morning rifle fire broke out near Tanabon camp for freed prisoners. There were no casualties.
