SUICIDE ATTEMPT

HAMBURG, October 20. Leading-seaman Schwoner, aged 19, one of the accused men in the U-boat trial, last night attempted to commit suicide in a bid to escape facing the verdict of the court. The vigilance of the gaolers prevented the attempt from being successful. Lenz, who earlier in the trial gave evidence that he snatched a machine gun from Schwener, described him as “ irresolute.”
