LAND SALES APPEALS

SIX PENDING IN OTAGO Six appeals from decisions of the Otago Land Sales Committee are awaiting consideration by the Land Sales Court, but no information is yet available about the probable date of the sitting, which will be necessary in Dunedin. This is the largest number of appeals lodged in Otago since the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act came into operation. Two previous sittings of the court have been held in Dunedin, but not more than three cases have been considered at any one sitting. The six appeals lodged include three farm property cases, one of which concerned the rights of a mortgagee to exercise his powers of sale although the mortgagor had negotiated a transfer to his serviceman son. Three town property cases are also the subject of an appeal. In one of these the committee gave preference to a returned serviceman, who intervened as an interested party, over a civilian who was : ated by the vendor as the purchaser.
