ANGLICAN SYNOD
DIOCESAN WAR MEMORIAL HOME FOR THE AGED That an old people's home be a war memorial for the diocese was recommended in a report presented yesterday to the twenty-seventh Synod of the Diocese of Dunedin, at the continuation of its sessions. Bishop Fitchett presided. The report, presented by the Rev. A. B. Pywell, convener of a commission previously set up to consider the question, also recommended that a start be made by establishing a home on a small scale, and that an appeal be made to the diocese for £20,000 for the purpose. After a discussion in committee, Synod passed a resolution:— *' That the commission be reappointed and enlarged, and given authority to collect funds for the establishment of a home for the aged." Mr Pywell was reappointed convener. It was considered that the establishment of the home should be effected as soon as.practicable as a diocesan war memorial. MISSIONARY COMMITTEE.
The report of the Diocesan Missionary Comittee stated that, in view of the tremendous call upon the Home Church for funds to repair the material damage of war and to call out, train, and maintain in many fields new workers to replace the losses and warwearied workers, the _ New Zealand Anglican Board of Missions had decided to cease the method of the past nine years of a low budget with percentage increases, and to appeal for a sum of £24,000 for this year, the amount to be increased annually by £I,OOO until it reached £30,000. The committee consequently had to revise the parochial quotas and had decided that the most equitable method would be to make the diocesan assessment for general purposes the basis of the mis-, sionary quotas. Synod, in committee, endorsed the Diocesan Missionary Committee's appeal for £24,000, but requested it to revise the quotas asked for from parishes and parochial districts in the light of the discussions of Synod in committee. WAIKOUAITI-PALMERSTON PARISH. A bill introduced by the Rev. N. P. Benham, to constitute the parochial district of Waikouaiti-Palmerston a parish, ,was read a third time and passed.
