OTAGO'S POOR SHOWING
ONLY £4,831 SUBSCRIBED ON SATURDAY Otago's investments in the Second Victory Loan on Saturday amounted to only £4,831, the lowest daily receipts of any provincial war loan campaign, while the total subscriptions to date of £1,225,695 represent only 54 per cent, of the quota. Otago is' now in the eighth position on the Dominion list, which is the lowest place it has ever' occupied in such a campaign.
With £1,034,305 to obtain before the flotation closes on June 16, Otago has a big hurdle to clear. The position was reviewed at a meeting of the district AA r ar Loan Committee this morn-
ing, when the chairman (Mr J. G. Dykes) referred to the apparent absence of provincial pride _in Otago i position in the. national list. It was stated at the meeting that while national savings are playing an important part throughout the being proportionately higher than during the First Victory* Loan campaign at this stage of the flotation, the larger investors were not supporting the loan to the extent expected. .
