PETROL ALLOWANCE

SERVICE PERSONNEL ON LEAVE MORE EQUITABLE DISTRIBUTION (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 1. New furlough and leave allowances of petrol to members of the services were announced by the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, today. The new allowance did not alter what had been given previously, lie said, but made a more equitable distribution.

The new allowances provide for a maximum of 30 gallons to all services for furlough leave, 10 gallons to all services for one final leave, and 10 gallons annually for members of the merchant navy serving beyond the New Zealand-Australian trade. In addition the Rehabilitation Department may recommend a discharge allowance to'enable an ex-serviceman to rehabilitate himself, and oil fuel controllers may recommend a grant to home service personnel-to meet cases of hardship.
