BROADCASTING HOURS
A FURTHER GUT . AID TO ELECTRICITY SUPPLY (T.A.) WELLINGTON, April 30. Beginning to-morrow,' a further reduction of half an hour in the hours of broadcasting will come into operation. All broadcasting stations will now shut down on Mondays to Fridays inclusive from 8.10 a.m. to 8.40 a.m., from 11 a.m. to noon (instead of from 11.30 a.m. to ■ noon as hitherto), and from 5.15 to 5.45 p.m. The change was announced in a joint statement by the Minister of Supply. Mr Sullivan, and the Minister of Broadcasting, Mr Jones. " The reductions' in the broadcasting hours, which have been in operation up till now, have materially, helped the electricity supply position in the North Island." said the Ministers. " The demand for power is increasing very rapidly, however, and still further economies are very necessary to keep the load down to .within the capacity of the generating plants. From now on all consumers are particularly asked not to use electric radiators between the hours of 4 p.m. and fi pirn, on week days and to use no more electricity than is necessary." The Ministers added that if everyone exercised care* in the use of power there should be no serious overloading of generating stations, nor any need to disconnect the load to bring the demand back to within the generating resources.
