PEACE CELEBRATIONS.
AUSTRALIANS SEEK ENLIGHTENMENT (N.Z.P.A. Special Aust. Correspondent.) (Rec. 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 30. Business firms in Sydney complain that they are in the dark about Federal and State' Government arrangements when the surrender of Germany is announced. They wish to know whether business houses, hotels, places of entertainment, and schools will be closed, and 1 whether trains, trams, and buses will run. The attitude of the Federal and State Governments is being contrasted critically with that of the New Zealand Government in an nouncing two days' holiday for thanksgiving and jubilation. The only policy .vet laid down by thtFcderal Government was the recent statement by the Prime Minister, Mr Cnrtin, that, as Australia still had to end its struggle with Japan, there should be no spirit of carnival Memorial services and other suitable and official gatherings would be held.
