PIGEON RACING
The Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club flew two races last week. The first was the Nomination Race from Ashburton, in which the-stationmaster liberated l 66 birds, representing 18 lofts, in fine weather. The birds made a good flight against a head wind, the winning bird flying the distance- of 153 miles in 3h oGmin, at a velocity of 1,148.8yds per minute. Results:—J. Scd'ullar's Queen Bess 1, ,A. Morris's Flying Chief 2, H. iMillard's Piper Pied 3, A. Fraser's Majority 4, P. Rule's Britannia' 5. On Saturday a race was flown from Ohristchurch, where Mr D. Cunningham liberated 160 birds from 22 lofts in fine weather. The birds appreciated the conditions and made a, fast flight, the winning bird covering the 200 miles in 4h 3min, at a velocity of 1,446yds per minute. Results: P. Paterson's Miss Penno 1. H. Millard's Bluey 2, It. Fitzgerald's Blue Horizon 3, M. Anderson's Southern Lass 4, J. Scoullar's Lady Dawn 5. The club will hold its Young Bird Derby on Saturday next from Ashburton, an air line distance of 153 miles.
