OTAGO HOSPITAL BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Otago Hospital Board was held last night, and was attended by Dr D. G. McMillan (chairman), Mesdames N. Ross and D. G. McMillan. Dr M. F. Blain, Messrs A A". Reid, J. W. Dove, P. G. Connolly. M.P.. R. Walls, A. Steel, and J. Bennetts. ■ ,

Motions of sympathy were passed in the death of Mr H. M. Driver, one of the original members of the board, and Mr F. Findlayy chairman of the Waikato Hospital Board. The chairman, Mrs Ross, arid Mr Dove were appointed representatives of the board to a tuberculosis conference convened by the Department of Health, to be held at Dunedin on May 23 and 24. IMPROVEMENTS TO WARDS. A tender of £5,097 from Messrs Mitchell Bros., builders, for alterations to Miller and Houghton wards and Campbell pavilion, to improve accommodation for patients, was accepted. . STATISTICAL REPORT, The medical superintendent (Dr James Thomson) reported that during March 650 patients (350 male and 300 female) were admitted to the Dunedin Hospital; 380 were, discharged as recovered, 194 as relieved, 61 as unrelieved, and 37 died, leaving 379 in hospital at the end of the-month. A total of 341 operations, of which 144 wero of a major eharacter, were performed during the month. /
