BEVERLEY-BEGG OBSERVATORY

PROGRAMMES FOR WINTER A meeting of the committee of the astronomical branch of the Royal Societv was held recently and attended by Messrs W. D. Anderson, F.R.A.S. (chairman), E. G. McGeorgo, W. A. H. Drew, E. W. Chrisp, D. C. Berry, F.R.A.S., and the hon. director of the observatory (Mr G. Couling).

The programme for the coming session was fully discussed, and it was decided to arrange for meetings during the winter months by suitable lecturers. It was decided "to continue the Saturday public nights at the observatory, beginning to-morrow. The mirror of the 12in reflector had been refiilvered and new eye-pieces have been purchased to replace those stolen. Mr Couling reported that the reflector was now in good working order, and that the coming session should be an interesting one, as the giant planet Jupiter would be well placed tfor observation throughout the winter months. In order to secure greater publicity for the facilities at the observatory it was decided to approach the authorities to have cards placed in the trams drawing attention to the series of public nights now beginning.
