ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
TWO YOUNG GIRLS DROWNED.
Falling from a ledge into the deep water of a tidal creek at Waiwera, Auckland, a small girl met her.death by drowning. She was Margaret Lincoln, agedi seven, daughter of Lieuten-ant-colonel and Mrs L. A. Lincoln, of Mount Roskill. Th accident occurred while 6ho was playing with her brother, Mervyn, aged eight, who leaped iu after her in an unsuccessful attempt at rescue. The child, who was unable to swim, sank almost immediately, and her brother, who rapidly became distressed, had to be helped from the* water. A search was made for the body, and the girl's father located it in about seven feet of water. Lieuten-ant-colonel Lincoln recently returned from service in the. Pacific area. Eileen Norma King, aged seven and a-half vears, was drow-ned when she fell into Evans Bay, Wellington, yesterday. The alarm was given by another child, and artificial respiration was tried, but without Tesult.
DIVING FATALITY.
A Taumarunui Association message states that John Rata, aged 18, slipped while diving from a ledge into the Ongarue River yesterday, landing on the shingle in shallow water instead of in the pool. He suffered serious injuries to the head, and died in hospital last, night. Rata was a fine athlete, the- youngest son of Mr J. Rata, of Ongarue. STRUCK BY OVERHEAD CRANE.
James Boomer, aged 24. who resides at 7 Edinburgh street. Green Island, was admitted to hospital late yesterday afternoon ■ suffering from head inj.uries, received when he was struck at the Hillside Workshops by an overhead crane.
