CHILDREN'S HEALTH CAMPS
STAIP CAMPAIGN OPENS TO-DAY BROADCAST INAUGURATION BY GOVERNORGENERAL " For many years those interested in the health aspect of child welfare in New Zealand were faced with the indifference and even the criticism which confronts most new movements,'* said the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall. in a broadcast address last night on the 1944 Health Stamp Campaign, which will commence to-day. " However," Sir Cyril continued, " those men and women who in the early days gave their time and money towards 'inaugurating children's camps and supporting them in their tender years can rejoice to see the splendid results of their work. We owe all of these men and women a very great debt of gratitude." Until recently, His Excellency said, owing to the war some health camps had been occupied by soldiers, but the situation had now so far improved that all but one were again available for their original purpose. Their proper maintenance, however, was largely dependent on the generosity of the public, and Hie Excellency appealed for continued suport for the project. He remarked that last year approximately £20,000 was raised by means of the Health Camp Campaign. To-day, His Excellency said, two health stamps would be on sale at every Post Office in New Zealand. By special permission #f His Majesty these stamps, one blue and the other green, would show an attractive picture of the royal Princesses together, Princess Elizabeth in Sea Ranger uniform and Princess Margaret Rose in the uniform of a Girl Guide. Sir Cyril referred to the keen interest which these stamps would arouse among collectors abroad, and he concluded: "Knowing how much the people of New Zealand love children and how willingly they help those less fortunate than themselves, I ask with confidence for your support in a cause which is not only good, but is very near to all our hearts." [Health stamps were on sale from 9 a.m. to-day at the Chief Post Office, and at all ' suburban and provincial offices.] !
