BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS CONCLUDED The twenty-first birthday celebrations of the <Jirl Guide movement in flew-Zealand concluded during ihe weekend in Duuedin with a rally at the Caledonian ".Ground ou Sautrday afternoon and a Guides' own service yesterday afternoon. Weather conditions were ideal for .Saturday's rally, in. which about 1,000 Guides from the province took paft. There was a large attendance of spectators, who included the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs V. C. Cameron;, and the president ot the- Otago Girl Guides' Association (Mrs J. Sutherland : Ross). ■ Proceedings were conducted by the three district commissioners, Mesdarnes. M. Arthur, S. Harris, and C. Wardcll, with- Miss K. McLeod as commentator. The Dunedin Ladies' Brass Band provided the music. A produce stall, conducted by the Divisional Committee, and a refreshment "stall, organised by the Lone and Post Guides, helped to swell the proceeds, which will go to the Guide International Service for its work of rehabilitation in Europe. , , • • , r Too programme, winch included most ot the activities in which Guides are engaged, commenced with an impressive march past of companies from North, South, and Central Otago and Dunedin. The salute was taken by Mrs F. G. Soper (provincial, commissioner), the divisional . commissioners (Miss J. B. Wilson and Mrs C. Pnngle), the district commissioners (Mesdarnes Arthur, Harris, Wardell, and Mrs H. Cochrane), the provincial 1 secretary (Mrs J. J... Anderson), and theLoue and Post commisnioner (Miss R. Begg). The Otago Girl Guides' Association is indebted to, the late Mr H. K. Wilkinson and.the late Sir Percy Sargood for bequests to further their interests in the province. Yesterday . afternoon Lady Sargood lent the,, grounds of her residence, " Marinoto," to the association, which conducted a Guides' own service on the tennis court. In between rain showers, the Guides were assembled and the commissioners conducted a short service! which was a fitting conclusion to the week's celebrations. ,
