UNRRA DELEGATES

VISIT TO DOMINION CONFERENCE ON RELIEF FOR DEVASTATED COUNTRIES (P.A.) AUCKLAND, October 8. Two United States members of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration arrived at Auckland by air from Sydney yesterday, and went to Wellington to-day to discuss with the Government matters connected with the post-war relief of countries devastated by the war. They are Mr Lithgow Osborne, deputy direc-tor-general of the Unrra, and Mr Rolf Nugent, economic adviser to the Unrra Bureau of Supply. They have just concluded similar discussions in Australia. "Most of our business in New Zealand will be concerned with three main topics,' 1 said Mr Osborne. " These will be the supply situation, the recruitment of personnel, and the building up of co-operation with voluntary agencies." They were, he, added, particularly concerned with, what New Zealand would be able to contribute in goods and with the methods of expenditure of the Dominion's monetary contribution. The personnel to be recruited in the Dominion would not exceed 10 or 12, Mr Osborne said. It was hoped to obtain a limited number of doctors, nurses, and trained social welfare workers, ayid they were very anxious to get the services of agricultural experts. The visitors said that the selected personnel would proceed to Europe, the Far East, Washington, or London, or wherever their qualifications would make them more useful. Their ages should not be less than 25 or more than 50. I While in New Zealand, the visitors said, they hoped to meet the leaders of voluntary j organisations willing to co-operate in the work of the Unrra. Although they originally intended to stay a fortnight, circumstances had necessitated their visit being curtailed to a few days.
