CRICKET
CLUBS OPEN SEASON Several cricket clubs opened the season in the customary manner on Saturday when the weather was fine. In each case the gathering was well attended by members and friends ol the club or clubs concerned. At Tonga Park the Dunedin, High School Old Bovs, and the newly-formed Southern clubs held a combined opening which included match practice and the usual social amenities. The speakers were Messrs R. C. Torrance, G. A, Wycherley, and J. A. Robson (Dunedin), E. H. Downes (Otago Cricket Association and Old Boys), F. Gray and J. Davis (Southern). The Grange club held its opening at the North Ground, Mr W. A. Rowland, in the ' absence of the president (Mr O. G. Stevens), declaring the season opened. Mr W. McDonald, representing the Otago Urnpries' Association, also spoke. The North-east Valley and AlbionY.M.C.A. clubs combined in a ceremony . at the Gardens Ground, and the Kaikorai club members and supporters assembled for the purpose at Blshopscourt. The Mornington Women's Cricket Club officially opened its season at the Oval.
