VICTORY LOAN
DISTRICT BODIES SHOULD HAVE FREER SCOPE (P.A.) AUCKLAND, October ?. Some aspects of the recent Victory Loan campaign were criticised at the final meeting of tiie Auckland Victory Loan Committee yesterday. The deputy chairman, Mr F. E. Sutherland, said he thought that the sending out of telegrams signed bv the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, was most unfortunate. He also expressed the view that the telephone evening on September 23 was a big mistake. Mr Sutherland criticised the standard of the bulletins issued from headquarters in Wellington, particularly, towards the end of the campaign. "It was unfortunate to suggest that the committees should resort to ballyhoo," Mr Sutherland said. Some of the new features of the campaign were praiseworthy, but the thought that the selection of a loan theme song was poor. The mayor (Mr J. A. C. Alluml the chairman of the committee, suggested that in future campaigns there should be closer contact betwerti the Government and loan committees. He. also considered that district representatives shou'd be able to make instead of being required to go to Wellington merely to be told what to do. Instructions could well come by letter, but the committees should have some s:>y when discussions took place in Wellington.
