SATURDAY RAIDS BIG FISH AND LITTLE ONES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 9^ When two bookmakers, whose Saturday's takings amounted to approximately £l,lOO and £4OO, were fined £IOO and £SO respectively by Mr Stout, S.M.. counsel for a third said as his client's takings were only £259 in three weeks the fine should be in the region of £3. The Bench was not impressed, remarking that the scale did not descend at such a rapid rate. He imposed a fine o)f £25. The first defendant was Robert Henry Rawlinson. manufacturers' representative, aged 57, who was alleged to be the principal, despite counsel's assertion that he was not. The second was Nancy Watts, a domestic, who, counsel said, was definitely giving up the game ; and the third. Richard Frandi (63). a pensioner. A fourth, Patrick Slattery (51), who had three previous convictions, was warned that he was getting near the gaol iif he did not give up. He had taken £36 10s up to 12.15 p.m. on Saturday, and was fined £SO.
