BOMBERS OUT IN FORCE

HEAVY RAIDS ON WESTERN GERMANY (Rec. 10.30 a.m.) . RUGBY; Sept. 27. Over 1,100 heavy bombers this morning attacked railroad yards and war industries along the Rhine and elsewhere in Western Germany. Fortresses and. Liberators were escorted by strong forces of Mustangs, Lightnings, and Thunderbolts. Among the Targets attacked were a tank factory at Kassel, the railroad yitrd at Oppau, a synthetic oil and chemical plant at Ludwigshafen, railroad yards and industrial plants at Cologne, and the railroad yards and an ordnance depot at Mainz. Heavy overcast conditions were encountered, and all the bombing was done by instruments. The total force used by the Americans in this raid was about 1,850 aircraft. . ' < >■
