PROTECTION OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN

. The monthly meeting of the society was hold on Tuesday last, .there being present Dr McKinnon (president), in the chair, the Mayor (Mr D. C. Cameron). Mrs Cruickshank, Mrs Downing, Mrs Aslin, Sister Elinor. Miss Ruueiman.'Rev. W. A. Curzori-Siggers, and the secretary (Miss Coe-Smith).. Tho Mayor was welcomed by the President, who expressed the hope that Mr Cameron would be able to attend many of the meetings.

The President moved that the following minute of appreciation of the services of the late Mrs S. M. Park be recorded:—" The committee records with profound regret the death of Mrs S. M. Park, a member of this society since 1920. and a vice-president for sis years. Her wise counsel and sound judgment were always available in tho many delicate problems which arise in connection with the work of the society. Her unswerving loyalty to the Crown made her practical help to the dependents of soldiers in both World Wars .very real. Her passing will be felt as a great loss in the community." _ This was carried by the members standingin sileuce. Sympathy was expressed with Mrs Lock and her family in their recent bereavement, also with Mrs Todd, a member of the committee, in the death of her sister (Miss Biekneli). Tlie secretary's report was read and discussed. Anions the several'cases dealt with by the society this month were cases iii which domestic troubh* arose from husbands leaving wives and children and associating with other women, either married or single. Another case was that of a married man advertising himself in a matrimonial advertisement as a single man.
