RELIEVED OF COMMANDS
NAZI GENERALS REPLACED VON MANNSTEIN AND KLEIST DISAPPEAR FROM SCENE " (Rec. 11 a.m.) RUGBY, .May 11. Seibnstopol was evidently taken after a tremendously heavy artillery bombardment which reduced the city to complete ruin and enables the attackers to overwhelm the garrison in an unexpectedly short time. General Tollmkhin's army will now be released for the summer campaign in the south. There appears to be no doubt that von Mannstein has definitely been relieved of his command on the southern sector of the eastern front. In his place General Schoerner commands the Black Sea group, comprising the sixth and eighth armies, while FieldMarshal Model commands the first and fourth panzer armies and the Hungarian troops in the Carpathians. Model was moved from the northern group for this purpose, and has been replaced by General Lindemann. FieldMarshal Busch still commands the middle group of armies. Field-Mar-shal Kleist also seems to have disappeared from the southern theatre. Tn Western Europe the relationship between Rommel and von Rundstedt is not quite clear, but it seems that while von Rundstedt is senior commander. Rommel acts in an advisory capacity throughout the whole' west European defensive area.
