A MINOR STRIKE
REFUSAL TO WGRK CASCADE MINE (P.A.) WESTPORT, Feb.. 29. A strike has been declared at the Cascade mine .following upon the refusal of the members of the Cascade co-operative party to produce coal from a new section which was opened by them last year. According to an official statement by thjo management, this new section, known as Mill Creek, was worked by the party until early tlhis year,. and production from it ceased after a decision had 'been.given against the miuers by the Coal Council. The case before the Coal Council was a claim by the miners against the company, and when an unfavourable decision was given they gave notice that they would refuse to work the Mill Creek section at Cascade. Nine miners are and the direction of the company's mine manager was to the effect that at least two miners must be, engaged in solids in the Mill Creek section, and that the balance of the miners could work in the pillars., Theminers refused toiwork at all in the Mill Creek section,.' and, following upon the company's refusal to allow all bands to work in the pillars, the members of the party are on strike..
