TRANSPORT PROBLEMS
RATEPAYERS' SUGGESTIONS To make arrangements for a deputation to meet the Transport Committee of .flie Oity Council a meeting was held last night of representatives of the various Ratepayers and Householders' Associations. Mr P. L. Ritchie presided, and there were also present Messrs J. T. Faukis and D. A. Lake (Dalauore), Messrs M. H. Davidson and A. D. Booth (Leitb Valley), A. S. Cayzer and G. H. Fereus (Mornington), J. H. Matheson (Roslyn), W. Jacobsen and J. L. Laurie (Tainui), Mrs 0. Jones-Xeilson and Mr R. C-hiiswell (Broad Bay), and the secretary, Mr C. Oampbeli-Dawkdns Mr Cayzer said it was not only desirable, but necessary, that the associations sihould have an opportunity of placing' their views personally _ before Sir William Goodman. The associations, ho said, had such an excellent case that permission to see Sir William could hardly be refused. He pointed out that by presenting their case in this way the associations could save Sir William and the Oity Council much time and unnecessary work. This course would also satisfy the ratepayers. \ . Mr Ritchie was appointed to introduce the deputation, and the speakers selected were Messrs Cayzer and JacohStatements covering the transport needs of 'the respective, districts wero received from the various associations. Mr Jacobsen suggested that a copy be obtained of the report which was recently niado on the Chris-tcthurch, tramway system. , i A letter was received from the Broad Bay Ratepayers' Association asking whether Sir William- Goodman would include in his report some recommendations in regard to the future transport between the city and Broad Bay. The following matters were held over for discussion at the next meeting of the representatives on March .15: — Unexpended loan moneys, Otago centenary celebrations, the coal shortage, and the transfer of workers to the North Island, particularly women and young girls Mr Mathesoii intimated that at the next meeting he would bring up th» question of forming a central ratepayers' association.
